从前，楚国有个人乘木船过江。他腰间挂着一把装在剑鞘里的剑。

Long ago, a traveler from Chu crossed a river in a wooden boat. A sword rested safely inside the scabbard at his waist.

船经过一阵小波浪时轻轻一晃，剑连着剑鞘滑进了水里。

The boat rocked gently over a small wave, and the sword—still inside its scabbard—slipped into the water.

他没有请船夫停船，只在船舷刻了一个小记号：“剑是从这里掉下去的。”

He did not ask the boatman to stop. Instead, he carved a small mark on the rail. “My sword fell from here.”

木船继续向前，船上的记号也跟着走；剑却留在原来落水的地方。

The boat kept moving, carrying the mark with it, while the sword stayed where it had fallen.

船靠岸后，他指着记号说：“剑就在这下面，我现在下去找。”

When the boat reached shore, he pointed to the mark. “My sword is right below this spot. I will look for it now.”

他从记号旁下水寻找，可找来找去，怎么也找不到那把剑。

He searched the water beside the mark, but no matter how carefully he looked, the sword was nowhere to be found.

船夫提醒他：“船已经走远了，剑却没有跟着船走，怎么会在记号下面呢？”

The boatman reminded him, “The boat moved on, but the sword did not. How could it still be below the mark?”

他终于明白：船会移动，情况会变化，找办法时不能只守着过去的记号。

At last he understood: the boat had moved and the situation had changed. A good solution could not depend on an old mark alone.

情况会不断变化。解决问题前要重新观察，并根据眼前的情况调整办法，不能只守着过去的记号。

Circumstances keep changing. Look again and adjust your method to the situation instead of clinging to an old marker.
